The South Hants Group of Churches
We are group of six churches located within six miles of Southampton City Centre. We minister to our respective parts of the Southampton area, but also work together to share resources, meet common challenges and look towards renewed mission. There are four United Reformed Churches: Avenue St Andrew’s, Freemantle and Isaac Watts Memorial Churches in Southampton and King’s Road Church in Chandler’s Ford. The other two churches, at Lord’s Hill and at St Francis, Valley Park, are Local Ecumenical Partnerships with participation by the Church of England, Baptist, Methodist and United Reformed Churches. Lord’s Hill and St Francis have their own ministers (Reverends Robert Sanday and Peter Hutchinson respectively), whilst the four United Reformed Churches share two ministers (Rev Dr Sarah Hall and Rev Tim Searle) and a ministry team!
Whilst we are proud of our history (one of our churches can trace its origins back to 1662, albeit
through amalgamations and then worshipping on a different site), we like to look forwards. We have a broad theological base, enjoy a variety of different worship styles, and worship in modern or recently modernized buildings. Since joining forces as a group in 2006 we have continued to evolve and grow together, benefiting from a growing sense of shared purpose and mutual support. Between us we host and support a wide range of activities, for people of different ages from young to old, since we believe that Church is not just about Sundays. We welcome visitors and new members, and look forward to seeing you if you are in the area and are able to join us at a service or an activity.
